Poems

This poem rebukes the blasphemy of remaking Jesus into a partisan mascot—a Christ of political agendas, nationalist fervor, and tribal rage. It echoes His own words before Pilate: “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). Yet many in America invoke His Name to sanctify idols of power, conspiracy, and hate.

Christ Himself, and the witness of Scripture, make clear this is not the Way of the cross, but the broad road many travel that leads to destruction. The poem calls us to discern the true Christ from the counterfeit—and to tremble before the God who will not be mocked.

His Kingdom is Not of This World

“Sure, Jesus is on OUR team!
He proudly wears OUR hat.
He’s for us not against us,
And here’s just how we know all that:

He hates our foul opponents.
He wants our side to win!
He helps us fight like hell to make
our country great again!”

       But their Jesus is an idol.
       His Name, they use in vain:
       Who serve a selfish, mortal cause,
       Who seek worldly power to gain.

       MAGA is their idol;
       Their sorcerer QAnon.
       Hatred and discord govern them;
       Their Jesus is their pawn.

       Deceived, they spread deceit.
       Their Lord: the Lord of Lies.
       Their end will be destruction;
       The True Jesus, they despise.

       Though greatness is their aim –
       they risk enormous loss.
       Their minds, consumed with earthly things,
       Make them enemies of His cross.

       You who put a hat on Jesus
       As if you could bind Him to your cause,
       Beware the fury of Christ’s Father,
       His Judgement and His Eternal Laws.
