Poems

Today an anti-Christian spirit of partisan judgment has overtaken many in the Church, where political allegiance often overshadows obedience to Christ. In a climate of condemnation and tribalism, many discard the Lord’s command: “Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).

Jesus warns us not to fixate on the speck in another’s eye while ignoring the log in our own. This poem is a call to humility, mercy, and the Christlike love that does good even to those we oppose.

Logs and Specks

“All Democrats are Godless sinners!”
“Republicans are fascists, all!”
“Conservatives are heartless!”
“Liberals have such gall!”

Those whom we judge, we label;
It makes us seem more right.
Though every one of us is guilty;
Each heart as black as night.

How quickly do we notice
The specks in other’s eyes;
While our vision grows impaired
By logs of greater size!

“You hypocrites,” said Jesus.
“From your own eye take the log!
Only then will you see clearly!”
Purged of sin’s self-righteous fog.

O enemies! – O allies!
Mercy we all must needs;
More than judging condemnation,
Less words – more loving deeds!
